Brixham Railway Station in Victorian times.
This image gives you a good idea of what Brixham Railway Station looked like in the late 19th century. Note the unusual appearance of the tracks which look very different to modern railway lines. At the time the photograph was taken the railway lines comprised of Isambard Kingdom Brunel’s Broad Gauge railway tracks which measured a wdth of 7ft 0¼ inches.
The exact date of this image is not known but must be between the year the station opened in 1868 and 1892 when Brunel’s broad gauge was replaced with Standard Gauge (4 ft 8+1⁄2 in).
