In Memory of Janet Coles

The section of the BRHT from Bridge Road to America Lane is sponsored in memory of Janet Coles.

Janet had an insatiable curiosity about people and places. She loved adventure and the outdoors, and she had the great gift of connecting with everyone she met.

Born and raised in Torbay, Janet worked here as a hotelier. Devon was where her heart was, but she was also a great traveler.

Janet volunteered for Ramblers UK as a walks leader and walks secretary. She had a detailed understanding and knowledge of what she called ‘my beloved Dartmoor’ and became an Information Officer for Dartmoor National Park Authority. She also volunteered for the National Trust.

For twenty years she was a leader for HF Holidays, always earning five-star reviews from clients.

Joining HF’s Abroad Panel, she led holidays in France, Italy, Lanzarote as well as to the Caribbean, Vietnam, Laos and Cambodia. She also developed holidays for HF on Dartmoor, the Isles of Scilly and in Vienna.

Janet had a zest for life. She was a loving and supportive wife, mother, and grandmother.

Aside from walking, she was keen wild swimmer and a talented Morris dancer. She is greatly missed.

Janet, who died in March 2024, would be delighted that her memory is being marked in this way, enabling everyone to enjoy accessible walking along the Brixham Railway Heritage Trail.
